Co-ordinating Reading, Listening and Viewing
I’m looking for advice on how to sync my listening, reading and viewing. Tech moves fast, so any working strategies will need to be revised, however perhaps we can uncover general principles.
I believe in a writing-first approach to knowledge retrieval. Yes, I know that knowledge is that what is supposed to reside in hearts, etc. However, as a record, writing should be given precedence over listening and viewing. Viewing is only suited to entertainment, or when the visual is more primary than the concepts.
I have Audible. I get one credit a month. I have downloaded the NIV dramatised reading, the Mahabharata, and the Sikh scriptures, as well as Shakespeare. I mainly use Audible for BBC comedies to fall asleep to with a timer. They are inconsequential and light.
It can be difficult to focus on serious listening. One rarely returns to a Audio Book unlike a Real Book. On the tube, the Audio Book can be interrupted with external noise, no matter how good your Noise Cancelling headphones.
Do I listen to what I only have a hard copy of? Do I use listening to revise old big tomes like the Bible and Classics? Do I use listening for throwaway books e.g. biographies etc?
Then there is the issue of live recordings vs. scripted recordings...
